Bob Loveless's recent passing has stirred the knife industry like few others. Bob was a maverick who made great knives and told it like it was--ALL the time!

What are your favorite Loveless stories? Did you ever talk to him at a knife show, call him and talk to him on the phone, buy one of his knives, etc., etc.? If so, tell us about it. Here's one of my Loveless stories:

One of the first times I ever saw him behind a table at a knife show was at an early '90s Guild Show. Totally intimidated, I walk up to his table and stammered some non-sensical question and he just glared at me like he wanted to tear my throat out and opened his mouth to expose this huge, cavernous, gaping puss with no teeth in it (he wasn't wearing his dentures that day) and just starting screaming/snarling/growling at me in a ghoulish kind of way. I left his table totally dumbfounded. Later I had some good conversations with him. That day wasn't one of them.

You were smart to keep that! ;)

I was at a table with Bob, Ted and Maureen Devlet, and Lynton McKenzie in 1983. Several times Maureen got up to go to the ladies room. Being a gentleman, McKenzie rose every time she got up. After five times, Loveless barked, "McKenzie, you get up one more fu##ing  time and I'll spit this wad of tobacco that I'm chewing on your nice white linen suit.

Nice, Lou! ;) OK, time for a good Loveless story. I remember a BLADE Show West where Loveless was looking all over for a BLADE Show West employee to thank her for something or other, i can't remember what. I was there when he finally caught up to her out front of the show and he hugged her and told her what a great job she was doing. Of course, there will be those who will say Bob was just being a masher in that instance but that wasn't the case. He was just showing the employee how much he appreciated her. It was really kind of touching.

I'm a bit late to this thread, but I have a pretty cool Loveless related story.

Axl Rose of Guns N Roses is a huge knife collector, in particular he has a fondness for Loveless Knives.  He had one of his representatives visit Loveless' home and meet with his widow.

At first she did not understand who this stranger was who showed up at her house asking questions about her late husband.  After a half hour or so, she realized that it was on behalf of Axl and while probably not a fan of Guns N Roses, she knew exactly who they were talking about.

She gave Bob's shop bandanna to Axl's assistant and if you catch a glimpse of the band's most recent tour on You Tube or make it to a concert:  Axl proudly wears Bob's old bandanna around his head.

Never too late! That's pretty cool, Mike.
