Knifemaker Spotlight: Mark Laramie
July 08, 2008
by  Brendan O'Brien

Mark Laramie’s career began in March of 2000. He began with fixed blades and sold his first knife in September of 2000. However, by year’s end he had the itch to make folding knives. “I bought a couple kit knives to see how they were put together, then I drew up some of my own,” says Laramie.

He made his first figural “The Hummingbird” in December of 2007 and followed it with “The Chameleon” (right). “Figural knives allow me to perfect several areas of my knife making all at once because they present so many different challenges,” says Laramie. “I definitely enjoy the challenge of making a new design for the first time.” He works with stainless, high carbon and damascus steels. List price for “The Chameleon” is $3,900. His contact information: POB 1527, Dept. BL9, Raeford, NC 28376 978.502.2726 www.malknives.com.
